As a little girl I would always plead with my mother to let me sleep under the stars on warm summer nights and my lovely mother, unable to decline, would create a makeshift tent on our terrace for my sisters and I to pretend we were on safari.

We would gather around as she fed us each morsel and told us stories of her childhood in Italy late into the night.
