Happy International Woman's Day
March 08, 2014
“The history
of all times and of today especially, teaches that women will be forgotten if
they forget to think about themselves.” – Louise Otto
On March 8th - International Women’s Day – women in Italy and
other places in the world are given sprigs of Mimosa to commemorate this day
that celebrates the accomplishments of women.
Each year, on this day, being a woman takes on greater
significance. I am so blessed to be a woman of the 21st century who
lives in a country where I am able to live a full and privileged life thanks to
the sacrifices of women who came before me. Women’s emancipation made free
thinking possible and helped create a self-reliant society. I am only saddened
this is not true for every woman in the world, so today, my thoughts and
prayers go out to all the brave women who continue fighting for the same freedom
and rights as men to end sexual violence, gender mutilation, work discrimination
and all other forms of injustice against women.
Thank you to all the women who paved the way. Without
the struggles, hardships and sacrifices they made, I would not be able to enjoy
my love of travel and writing as I do today. I would not be able to roam freely
and confidently through the world and through life. And I definitely would not
be able to share my voice through my writing, so thank you from the depths of
my soul for I would not be the same woman who stands before you today.
Wishing every fabulous woman a day filled with gratitude and hope that one
day we may all be free.
Love & Light,
