Christmas Markets in Europe
December 18, 2012
From Strasburg to Cologne, the historic Christmas Markets
are a time for indulging in holiday treats and Yuletide joy.
Nothing evokes the
spirit of Christmas like strolling through the fabled Christmas Markets of Old
World Europe with a steaming cup of hot mulled wine in hand, as you inhale the sweet
scent of cinnamon and spice.
These markets serve
as a festive meeting place for family and friends to celebrate the Yuletide
season. It is a picturesque scene right out of a children’s storybook with caroling
and thousands of sparkling lights strewn across stalls stacked with
Christmas tree decorations, wooden toys, handmade arts and crafts, candles and
ceramics. Here the romance and magic of a traditional
Christmas is alive and well.
Each year millions of visitors come to celebrate the holiday season and indulge their sweet tooth with artfully decorated pastries that seem to have crawled off the pages of a medieval cookbook. It is an experience you won't forget.
I don't know about you, but I would gladly give up malls and toys that are made in China. To me, this is how the holidays should be celebrated – in an outdoor market surrounded by the sights, smells and sounds of a good old fashioned Christmas.
